The Romeo (Ditte Fratelli Po di Edoardo Po) was a factory of mopeds and light motorcycles in Italy, founded in 1961, renamed Motrone in 1976, which concluded its activities in 2000.
The context
Everything began in Modena, at the end of '50s, by the Po brothers, a family specializing in the repair and sale of bicycles and mopeds Cimatti.
Given the booming market, Edoardo Po decided to begin the construction of mopeds, manufacturing looms to assemble engines and components produced by other companies. Moreover, a strong encouragement was also Vittorio Minarelli, willing to provide the engines with pay after the sale.
The choice of the mark was made following the footsteps of another small company vicentina, just on the market: the Juliet of F.lli Peripoli. By contrast, they chose the name Romeo over F.lli Po.
The Romeo
The first three models, the "Superturismo", l ' "Italy" and "Zeta", all with motorized propellers Minarelli were offered for sale in the 1961.
Thanks also to the great demand for mopeds at the economic, the local success was immediate and encourage the Romeo to increase the range and expand their horizons of sale. In this context, the models were born "Sports Sprint and Sprint Supersport, mopeds immediately welcome to users couple of time, which crossed the boundaries of the market Regional, thanks all'accorta strategy Sales of the "patron", who arranged to deliver them directly to dealers in the sale.
Following the "boom" in the second half of '60s, the market for mopeds experienced a tremendous surge in sales, they also become a means of entertainment for the young. In 1968 the "Fujihama" first moped from cross-brand. Equipped with a lightweight frame monoculla and an upgraded engine, the "Fujihama" became an object of desire for many children at the time, but came to be produced in series, opposed by the rigid concepts of structural safety of Edward Po On stone, however, had been launched and the Romeo had demonstrated the ability to make mopeds exclusively designed for the entertainment of fourteen.
Solve the structural problems by creating a dual cradle chassis enclosed in steel tubes of generous dimensions, in 1970 the Romeo completely renewed its range and produces three models to produce a lasting sales success of the "Monster", in tourism or sport, the "Scorpion by cross and Pedrito ", a motorcycle with wheels of 10 " propeller and single-branding particularly appreciated by women. To these are added, the 1973, the model tentation, founder of a successful series of "tuboni", remained in production until the '90s.
Requests rained abundant also by foreign markets, forcing the company to organize working night shifts to cope with the orders. Soon the 'Romeo found himself facing a "qualitative leap" that seemed inevitable. Half of the 70s saw the construction of new production and the entrance in the company of the children of Edward Po, Ermanno and Adriano, who just wanted to modernize the brand, first with 'Motrom' (short for Romeo engines), then changed to 'Motrone in order to eliminate the assonance with the competing brand Motom.
The Motrone
