1911 - 191?
V.A.L.T. (Vetture Automobili Leggere Torino), was an Italian automotive manufacturer based in Torino and founded by the 34 year old Palmieri. They built a single car with a 15 HP engine which continued even as the factory had been taken over from English industrialist, John Newton, who changed the name and added his (Scacchi and Newton). This vehicle, a medium-economic with a conventional type design and a unilateral monoblock valved engine, did not have much success.
In 1910 Diatto began to export its cars to a worldwide market including North and South America, Australia and the whole
of Europe. Due to great worldwide demand for their product, Diatto needed to push monthly car production above 40 cars and acquired workshops from Itala Cars, the Scacchi workshops (100 workers, 5 cars per month), the John Newton, ex Valt, and the famous Garavini body-makers.
In 1915 Diatto acquired the Scacchi and Newton (previously Valt - Vetture Automobili Leggere Torino) factories. Scacchi, founded at Chivasso in 1911 by Cesare Scacchi, previously a workshop supervisor at Fiat, had a workforce of 100 and built 5 cars a month. Valt, founded in 1911 and subsequently acquired by the British industrialist John Newton, was also a car manufacturer.
